Star Snippets: Kyuji Fujikawa, Takeshi Okada …..

Right-hander Kyuji Fujikawa has decided to continue his career with the Hanshin Tigers in the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) as he signed a contract extension with the same terms in the team. A mainstay with the national team who has played in two World Baseball Classics and Olympics, Fujikawa had 25 saves in 49 appearances last season. He led the Tigers to a fourth place finish in the Central League last season.

National football team manager Takeshi Okada has encouraged players to show their fighting spirit as the team plays for the East Asian Football Championship this coming week. The 54-year old native of Osaka has been widely criticized for his unrealistic goal of finishing in the Final Four of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in June. Okada has repeatedly defended his ambitions with continuous and rigid training with the national players.

The 6-foot-3 guard is leading his team to second place after playing 27 games winning 16. They are currently tied with Hitachi SunRockers and 7 games behind front running  Aishin Seahorses.
