There was no rematch of last year’s Finals between Roger Federer and Andy Murray. We didn’t have the chance to witness arch rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal either.  But one fixture remains in this year’s edition of the U.S. Open – Roger Federer. Yes, he had his winning moments from the preliminary rounds, through the quarters and semis until he bumped into the young Argentine by the name of Juan Martin del Potro.

Juan Martin del Potro was seeded sixth in this year’s U.S. Open.  He worked his way through challenges from the opening round until reaching the Finals of the U.S. Open for the first time after beating Rafael Nadal in the semis. It made him the first Argentine to reach that plateau after Mariano Puerta did the same feat in the 2005 French Open.

In the Finals, it was obvious that Roger Federer had difficulty in handling del Potro’s powerful serves and solid groundstrokes. Juan Martin used his height advantage over Roger en route to his first Grand Slam title stunning the number one ranked and number one seeded Roger Federer.
