Dylan Ababou: Playing above expectations

Finally, my guessing game on who would win this year’s MVP race in the UAAP came to an end early this week. Dylan Ababou of the University of Santo Tomas narrowly beat Ateneo’s Rabah Al- Hussaini and FEU’s Aldrech Ramos in the race for the top individual honor for the Philippines’ premiere collegiate league. I’ve read from the reports that the competition among the three is one of the closest MVP races in the recent UAAP history.
I’m convinced that Dylan really deserves to get the most coveted plum. Now on his last playing year for the UST Growling Tigers, the 6-foot-3 forward played consistently all through out the elimination round. He was the only player to score in double figures in all of the games in the eliminations. He averaged a league-best 18.9 points a game, tied with Al-Hussaini at eight place for rebounds at 7.1 per game and has a 2.2 assists an outing.
Born on December 7, 1986 to a Filipina mother and a Moroccan father, Dylan is taking up Behavioral Science at the Asia’s only Pontifical University. He also plays for the Smart Gilas developmental team handled by Coach Rajko Toroman.
