Rey Bautista: Booming for an explosive comeback

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Rey ‘ Boom-boom’ Bautista on the ring. His last fight was back in November 22, 2008 losing unanimously to Mexican Heriberto Ruiz. During his silence, ‘Boom-boom’ underwent operation to his injured wrist and doing the rehabilitation as well. Now, he is ready to plunge into limelight once again as he takes on his dangerous Indonesian foe Marangin Marbun on October 16, 2009 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel in Cebu City, Philippines.
Expectations were high on the young Rey to be the next big thing in Philippine boxing. However, in August 2007, many were disappointed when he was knocked out by Daniel Ponce de Leon in the very first round in their title fight for the WBO Super bantamweight crown. Moreover, he was at the losing end against the tough Mexican Heriberto Ruiz in his last bout.
Born on June 19, 1986, Rey comes from a humble family in Candijay, Bohol. He once told the local scribes that he would have ended up in the Philippine Army had it not been because of his boxing career. Bautista’s record now stands at 26-2-0, with 19 KOs.
Now that Bautista has undergone an operation to repair his aching wrist, he is oozing with confidence that he can make an explosive return on October 16 to prove his detractors wrong. I’m positive as well that Boom-boom will be back to his old fighting form.
