Another young prospect from the Philippines keeps his unbeaten run of victories with an impressive performance over a former world champion from Panama last October 3 at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City, Philippines. Drian Francisco put on an unorthodox boxing clinic against Roberto Vasquez of Panama en route to 10th round TKO for the WBA International Superflyweight title.

Francisco was regarded as the underdog coming into the fight considering Vasquez, a high profile boxer in his native country, was a former WBA champion at the 108 and 112 pound divisions. But Drian Francisco’s skills was too much for the former champion to handle.  Vasquez was first knocked down in the 5th round following crisp combinations from the challenger. On the last seconds of the 10th round, Francsico did the finishing touches to put Vasquez again on the canvass forcing his corner to call it a day.  Francsico’s record improves to 18 wins, 14 by KOs without a single loss.

A college graduate, Drian Francisco is looking forward to challenge Nobou Nashiro of Japan who currently holds the WBA Superflyweight title. Francisco is at the prime of his career, keeping an unblemished record at age 26. At his age, this is his best time to go for a world title. I’m confident that this guy can be the next Filipino boxing superstar considering his skills and attitude.
