Another US NCAA standout expected to formally join Smart Gilas by mid next year is Chris Lutz. He is likely to come back to the Philippines by end of April or May. Chris was born on February 11, 1985 to American father Wayne and Filipina mother Luzviminda. The six-foot-three senior off-guard from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia is a three-point specialist and may be the country’s ‘next Allan Caidic’.
Like Caidic, he shoots from beyond the arc in bunches with accuracy at almost 40 % in the Division I of the US NCAA. As a freshman playing for Purdue University, Lutz played an average of 30 minutes a game and hit 9.2 points. On his sophomore year, his playing time dipped to 21.9 minutes that lead to decrease in his scoring at 6.1 per game. Chris then decided to transfer to Marshall University . He sat out for a year as per NCAA eligibility rules. On his junior year playing for Marshall he scored an average of 10.7 points an outing in 27.6 minutes.
Lutz, however, may not be like Allan Caidic in a sense that the former is right –handed. Nonetheless, Lutz is a great find that surely adds to Smart Gilas perimeter firepower and may be considered as ‘the next Allan Caidic’.
