Z Gorres: Getting closer to championship dream

The night before Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Angel Cotto rumble in the ring, three Filipino boxers slug it out against their respective opponents in Mandalay Bay House of Blues also in Las Vegas. Highly regarded Z Gorres, now fighting in the bantamweight division, joins Federico Catubay and Mark Melligen as they inch closer to title fights in their divisions. Gorres is going to face the tough Columbian Luiz Melendez.
Z Gorres was born on April 18, 1982 in Nasipit, Agusan del Norte. He now resides with his family in Mandaue City in Cebu. He sports an impressive record 30-2-2 win-loss-draw record with 17 KOs. He reminds me of the crafty and recently retired Christian Mijares of Mexico but with greater punching power. Gorres, coming out from the ALA boxing stable has been denied to stardom a couple of times in controversial matches against Fernando Montiel and Vic Darchinyan.
Nicknamed as ‘The Dream’, Gorres has since bounced back from those two frustrating and disputable defeats. He has won his last three fights, all in one sided affairs. On Friday the 13th, expect Z Gorres to be at his best as he inches closer to his title dream.
